Pengukuran Gross Tonnage (GT) Dan Material Kapal Payang Berbasis Di Pelabuhan Perikanan Pantai (PPP) Lempasing

Abstract

Payang is a favorite fishing gear used in PPP Lempasing. The issue of maritime transportation safety, especially payang boats, is less noticed by the fishermen themselves. The purpose of this study was to determine the Gross Tonnage size of payang boats and the material used to make the boat to determine the feasibility of the load capacity so that the port management and harbor master can determine and regulate the limits that can be loaded on the boat. The implementation method starts from a survey to the port to determine the boat, measuring the boat including the height, width, length and material of the boat including the type of material, thickness, advantages and disadvantages. The results of the gross tonnage measurement of the boat at PPP Lempasing are payang boats with 2 sizes of 6 GT boats and 2 boats with a size of 8 GT with measurements of the length, height, and width of the boat. The results of interviews with several fishermen at PPP Lempasing obtained 2 types of boat making materials, namely wood and a mixture of wood and fiberglass and the thickness of the payang boat material ranges from 3 cm to 5 cm. The advantages of these two materials are that the materials are easy to obtain, affordable, easy to handle leaks and easy to repair. The disadvantages of this material are that it is heavy, easily brittle or cracked and wastes fuel.
